I've been doing that...no dice..tried a system restore too...

I'm not too concerned though. Maya 2011 has all the plug ins installed to it and frankly it's overall functionality will be more desireable than 2012 for some time...

texture 04-09-2011 06:03 AM

I've also noticed that when saving scenes in 2012, a warning is issues stating that the scene will no longer load in previous versions. Haven't tested it out to see if it holds true yet though. For all I know, it's always been like this.

I found a whole bunch of Maya 2012 shit tucked away in those files that I missed. Let's see if this works out now.

Windows Vista/Windows 7
  • C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk
  • C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Autodesk
  • C:\ProgramData\Autodesk
Nope. Goddamn...I hate screwing things up like this...

If you want to install Composite and Matchmover to user-defined directories, you need to install them separately by using the cmd ,run it as admin and type in the cmd window: start x:\xxx\x64\Composite\Composite_2012.msi, then choose the path you like it to be installed

Digital Molecular Matter plug-in for Maya

"The DMM (Digital Molecular Matter) plug-in for Maya from Pixelux Entertainment™ is now included with Maya 2012. The plug-in helps you create highly realistic shatter, destruction, and deformation simulations that can include multiple interacting materials. The DMM plug-in available with Maya is a full-feature version with some simulation limitations."

Bummer...

Loudesbois 04-09-2011 04:41 PM

It appears I have an issue with Maya 2012 and my Wacom tablet.
Something I already got with other softwares like Mocha Pro.
I need to click three or four times on a menu set to make it scroll down ( if it scrolls down ).
It's just a pain in the ass.
I don't know what's wrong with my Wacom because a regular mouse works like a charm and I need to use the pen.

roocoon 04-09-2011 07:20 PM

After I installed 2012, my 2011 developed problems (in Win7 x64).
Many plugins wouldn't load properly and when I tried to uninstall/reinstall them, it got to the point that 2011 couldn't even start up its screen. Even a reinstall of Maya didn't help.

The fix was easy (after I spent a whole afternoon trying to figure it out).
Deleting the 'Prefs' folder was not enough, by the way.

Anyway, the problem is that both versions default to Documents\maya for their settings, maya.env and such.
So you have to cover for this.

Let's say you already have 2011 and want to install 2012 side by side with it.
I assume you are using the default folder names.

1. Transfer ALL the Maya-related environment strings into the maya.env file (create new variables or append them to existing ones) and then delete the environment strings through the Control Panel so they don't appear in both places.

2. Rename the current Documents\maya to Documents\maya2011

3. Install Maya 2012.

4. Rename the newly created Documents\maya to Documents\maya2012

Now they are both installed without conflicts. You only have to rename the appropriate 'mayaXXXX' Documents\folder to 'maya' and run the program.

I did it with a batch file that looks like so for the 2011 version:

Quote:

@echo off
REM rename folder 'maya2011' to 'maya'
ren %USERPROFILE%\Documents\maya2011 maya
"C:\Program Files\Autodesk\Maya2011\bin\maya.exe"
REM rename it back to 'maya2011'
ren %USERPROFILE%\Documents\maya maya2011
Save the above, say as, maya2011.bat and put it in the root folder of the Maya2011 installation (or wherever).

Do a similar one for the 2012. Just change the 2011s to 2012s and save it with a different name (maybe as maya2012.bat in the root folder of the 2012 installation).

Right-click the Maya icon on the desktop, say the 2011 one, select properties, and in the Shortcut Target field, point it to the maya2011.bat. While there, since you lost its icon, click on the Shortcut's Change Icon button, browse to the real Maya.exe and get the icon from there.

Repeat the Properties stuff for 2012.

That's it.
You'll get an extra DOS window that will stay behind the Maya screen anyway, but if you don't like it, try some other way. As long as you keep the two Documents folders distinct, you'll be fine.

DAMN I created a stupid cylinder and a floor, and the shity TRYAL DMM software asks to purchase the the FULL version....what a piece of shit...
Men I hope X-FORCE takes care of this issue too!!!

Not to mention the BUGYNESS of Maya 2012. AUTODESK considers its costumers as beta testers!
Thats why piracy exists!

dephi 04-09-2011 08:25 PM

i wanna say that it is much faster than 2011 version

at least scene with 6000 rigit bodys with physx is working faster

PureHate 04-09-2011 08:31 PM

wow, Autodesk is only getin better and better..

Maya 2012 is a complete waste of TIME...
i think the best release of maya so far is the 2009...

i feel sad for those guys who pay thousand of dollars for this stuff...
Half of the stuff they anouced is not working here...

Loudesbois 04-09-2011 10:23 PM

New problem here.
The hotbox doesn't work AT ALL.
It shows a different menu from the one selected.
For example I get the Display menu each time I click on Surfaces...
And it changes all the time.
Now I get Edit Mesh instead of Particles...

Problems that you outlined and I have too.
Wacom pen mode, and full coverage of the area is operating normally
But in the mouse mode as you wrote, I will seek a solution

Briliant but right now I think 2011 is still better than 2012...

Nirrol 04-10-2011 01:04 AM

Slightly easier fix.
Uninstall 2011.
Install 2012.

Cadmium77 04-10-2011 01:09 AM

maybe in about six months when update pack #3 is out and all the other software plug ins are available for it.

Thanks god, I thought I was the only one... :p
I have some issues with the Intuos 3, especially with a single left click of the mouse or the pen.
Menus don't scroll down until I click three or four times.
Same thing with Mudbox 2012.

Alt+MMB

Anyone having a problem with their pan tool (Alt+MMB)? For the life of me, I can't get it to work and disabling the wheel scroll under properties sucks ass. when I do alt+MMB, the bastard just zooms in. Disabling wheel scroll will make it work, but scrolling to zoom in is part of my flow.

Here's what I have.
Maya 2012
Core i7
9 gigs DDR3
Windows 7/64 bit
GTX 285

Oh, and I almost forgot, I have Maya 2010 installed (never needed 2011).

I looked around the internet and I think it's not directly related to the driver.
It more or less has to do with some Windows properties and the way they handle the tablet with some particular applications.
Lot of people point out the Tablet PC Input Panel.
I turned it off but nothing really changed...
Still working on it... :)

pstef 04-10-2011 10:35 AM

Wacom intuos3:
Driver 6.1.6-7 WACOM INTUOS3 Win7 Vista XP 32 & 64 bit

But with ZBrush 4, I have often to reinstall the drivers because of the Tablet PC Input Panel like said Loudesbois !

You can disable it.
Go to your Control Panel.
Programs & Features.
On the left you got something like Turn Windows features on or off.
Then uncheck what is related to the Tablet PC features.
It takes a little bit to update ( something like 10 or 15 minutes for me ).
Then you have to restart your computer.:)

Asking the gods for a solution on this, still waiting for a answer. Shit they herd my call and got back to me lol.

Solution delete Maya Environment and Preferences in all your Maya directories such as Maya 2010,2011,2012

pstef 04-10-2011 10:55 AM

Ok THX, i prefere to preserve the initial config, because i use Tablet with many appz ....

A good news !

I have just trying GOZ with Maya 2012 and ZBrush 4... it works without change !
You have just to reinit the maya path for GOZ in zbrush and it installs it directly in the shelf in maya 2012.

corbetnome 04-10-2011 11:03 AM

Have a gaming Mouse - Logitech G5.

Maya 2009, 2010, 2011, 2011.5 - ALT MMB = pan (all work fine)
Maya 2012 x64 - Alt MMB = zoom (although you can see the pan mouse icon flash briefly once in a while)

Logitech G5 has a middle mouse button that is scrollable and clickable (down click, tilt left click, tilt right click). All middle mouse button operations result in zoom (not pan) in Maya 2012. Reprogramming this button has not worked but I did not try everything.

Logitech G5 also has a small side button that can be programmed to function as a middle mouse button. This button pans correctly in Maya 2012; thus its an acceptable work-around until this gets fixed.

No other application is so confused about the intent of the middle mouse button.

bigdude 04-10-2011 11:30 AM

I also have G5 mouse... and maya 2012.. windows 7 latest drivers.. middle mouse works fine for me
