Can we have 3.1 and 3.5 installed on the same machine? I mean 3.1 is working great so far and I do not want to screw it up with a non fully featured 3.5. Thanks guys.

I suggest that Vista 64 users install the following. (this is what I have installed)

Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable - x64
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x64 9.0.307.29
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x64 9.0.307.29.17
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x86 9.0.21022
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x86 9.0.30729
Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable - x86 9.0.30729.17
I also have the following installed;

The performance is pretty good in VMWare (you have to allocate enough RAM to the system), With 2 gigs of memory allocated to ZB, I was able to subdivide the soldier model to approximately 8331264 polys before the caution window popped up stating that I had reached the subdivision limit. This wasn't bad at all considering the stuff that I have running on my box. I was able to save the scene as a .OBJ, then just drag an drop it right onto the CentOS 5.3 desktop where I easily imported it into Maya, houdini, and XSI. Once in those 3D appz, everything ran even better. So far everything seems to be very responsive and impressive. My next test is bumping up the RAM to 8 gigs, and trying things out in another virtual environment. Hopes this helps the Linux users.

Thanked: 96 Others | yes it does, i'm running it on it on 2 xp64 machines. but just play 3.5 r2 for now and actually do serious work in 3.1. 3.5 is still too buggy, even for official users, and theres no plugins like zapplink, zmapper etc for 3.5

all your doing is exporting and importing Obj files, and if you want displacement, normal and other texture maps. people having been doing that for years.

I agree with Wall-e. That work-flow has been the standard for doing things for ages. And it really doesn't take more than a few minutes, tops. Trust me, under the hood, that's what GoZBrush is doing, it just does in without showing you all the gears in motion. You could do it manually and get the same results. I agree that streamlining the whole process is a great thing, but it's lack is not something crippling to your work-flow.

i am really really really lazy. And if i don't have import export something i'm all for it.
zbrush isnt high on my list of stuff i have to learn, so i'll start learning it, when i don't have to import/export stuff by hand.

Actually it is a lot easier nowadays, no need to bake materials.. Zbrush does all the work.. If you find it to much work to import/export, you will never be good at unwrapping uvw's, thus no zbrush
