I just wanted to open this thread in anticipation of the upcoming best digital sculpting program out there. It's not out just yet, but release is imminent! They said it will be out at the end of august and, well... it's the last day of august Now could someone bring us the goodies, please? I'm sure there's a lot of people here waiting for this... I'm practically drooling
For those that missed the news, and to better explain my excitement: (thank you, Georgeivan, for originally pointing this out in the Mudbox 2010 thread - I may have missed this had it not been for your comment).
If I find anything regarding this, I'll keep you guys posted.

I don't know yet. I noticed the 3d grid, too, but I don't know if that means that the workspace is now fully 3d. It would be nice to see that, it might improve the work-flow for newcomers. But once you get accustomed to the tools, you realize they're pretty well implemented as they are. I did read something about a revamp of the navigation - and that's definitely a good thing, as I used this program since version 2.5 and I still have trouble with the navigation, especially when going from modeling a mesh in max or maya and then detailing it in zb. I hope it's a maya style navigation. And another feature I'm looking forward to is map-baking from hd geometry, and the addition of ambient occlusion baking. Of course, the biggest cookie I'm drooling over is their much hyped zspheres II technology. It's just incredible! It really makes voxel sculpting in 3d coat obsolete, especially when you consider the difference in speed, because if there's any feature that makes zb stand out, it's its blazing speed... now if only they'd move it in the 64 bit territory (although, when you think about it, it's hard to believe a 32 bit application is capable of doing what zb does). Who knows, maybe ZB4 (also scheduled this year) will fill in that gap.

Holly crap! Thanks, Wall-e, for pointing that video out! This piece of software is just looking better and better by the second. It makes the waiting almost painful.

I wouldn't get my hopes up to high for getting this thing in the near future. It easily took 6+ months to get a key for 3.1 after is was released.

They've just posted some tutorial videos regarding the new features in 3.5. I guess it won't be long now. In any case, it's a a little something too keep us busy/excited. Just check out "Sketching with ZSpheres Basics" and "Surface Noise" sets of videos. Pixologic :: ZClassroom :: Homeroom | |

zb is still behind in 3d painting and shading capabilities. mb has taken slightly different direction so you can't really compare them head to head.

i prefer the way mudbox paints straight on to the texture, i hate in zbrush how theres either polypainting or projection master. but as a complete package zbrush 3.5 completely blows mudbox 2010 out the water, and zbrush 4 isn't too far behind which will have improved painting features. mudbox 2011 will have to have some seriously impressive stuff to keep competing, even 3D coat is getting better quicker

Yeah, it's released but it is being distributed electronically in waves, so there is no place to go to dl it unless you're a registered software owner of 3.1. May take awhile for it to get to non-customers.

Well, I think people are downloading it like crazy, because their site isn't loading, so I guess the server is overwhelmed by the number of downloads. I only hope someone with the possibility and will to share it with the rest of us will get their hands on it soon.

I haven't seen much work on zbrushcentral with the new zspheres. Someone saying it's like of drawing with a glue gun. I'm curious how long it takes to get the new zbrush. Does anybody still know how long it took last time with 3.1?
-edit- the cgpersia way

It is a completely new version, not a patch, or update. So this could take a couple of weeks. Patience.

Only registered owners of Zbrush 3.1 have access to it at this point, so it will take a bit for it to get out to us. Stop asking for the link.
