Default Unity v4.x.x & v5.x.x & v2017.x.x updates and win/mac medicines [updated regularly]

Windows' patcher info:
  • Patcher now self-checks if it has been "Run as administrator". It prompts the user if it has not been.
  • A license key is now randomly auto-generated at the start, and still allows you to regenerate more [one less click for you].
  • The patcher just asks for the location of the executable, and no longer asks for which version you want to patch.
  • It works out the version of the selected *.exe and patches it accordingly.
  • All v4.x.x and v5.x.x releases are handled.
  • Tested on v4.6.9p2(x32), v5.2.3p2(x64) and v5.3.0f4(x64).
  • The PATCH button can only be pressed is a valid executable is found within your chosen folder.
  • This patcher now creates a U*i*y.exe.bak (backup of the the original exe) prior to patching. Useful for those wishing to build a release game/app with the untouched editor.
  • This new version caters for the new licensing system for 2017.2+ and the old licensing. It will correctlty handle v4, v5 and both v2017 versions of unity.

If you press the play button and just "All compiler errors have to be fixed before you can enter playmode!" is displayed in the console, you have probably Norton Antivirus installed. Because only a few people have yet used mono.exe, Norton deletes it
You must recover the file to the following folder: "Unity 5.0.0b1\Editor\Data\Mono\bin\mono.exe"

no pro uses monodevelop..... they use visual studio.
i suggest you get a copy (or a free vs2013 express version), which is much better.

IMHO: VS2013 coupled with ReSharper and NET Reflector is a must for any serious coder.

if you use these, it will more-or-less tell you 'what' code needs to be changed.

Some feedback:
It does not seem to work on Windows XP.
Unity 5 runs and it creates an empty project but there is no text anywhere in the editor (as if Fonts were invisible). Any ideas?

XP 32 bit, in VMWARE workstation latest (with 3D accelerated graphics).
Downloaded form Unity.
Installed without running.
Patched making sure Unity 5 - not 4 - was selected in Valera patcher.
(Unity 4 patched to Pro runs on the same Virtual Machine)

windows XP is no longer supported (microsoft dropped it). so why would unity support it???

thank you for your reply.

The CEO said recently that Unity supports XP because the Chinese market is huge for them, and they mostly use XP (I am not in China but XP keeps my VMs small in disk and RAM).

My Windows 8.1 x64 VMWARE VM has got problems running my VPN service, the one that makes me appear from another IP.
Anyway, I got your message: I will run Unity 5 on Windows 8.1 as soon as I can. Thank you for your great work and for your reply.

In case I manage to get NGUI or other plugins to run in Unity 5, which thread is best to post them: this one?

  • WinXP supports unity 4.x and previous versions - NOT Version 5.

  • I made this thread for unity 5 users - so please keep all v5 related posts here. - thanks

  • The WebGL Preview is only available in the 64-bit version of Unity 5.

it is just the andrybot demo - but the code has slightly changed due to the API changes.
if you are moving to unity5 from 4.x permamently, installed the new sample.
if you are just testing v5, but will still be using 4.x.... do not install the sample or the new monodevelop.

The WebGL Preview just support for Firefox browser? Chrome can't using its?

I test with chrome will get script error,but firefox running well.

After downloading it 2 more times, it finally works

Now am I doing it wrong, or does webgl not support enlighten? Everything looks good in the editor, but when I export it to webgl it looks like how it looks when you go to the lightmapping window and uncheck "use lightmaps".

It's support chrome too,just is some restriction on file:/ URL,test with local server working prefect.

Is it possible to have Unity 4 Pro with legal license and test Unity 5 Pro using crack by valera3132? Does crack modify exe but cracked Unity would still require cracked license key and you can't use old license bought from Unity?

If I misunderstood, why don't you tell me what I got wrong? So far all I know is that a webgl build looks completely different than it does in the editor.

NO.... not off the bat!!!
the licenses are in the same location and would overwrite each other.

the only way to achieve what you want, would be to move the unity 4.x license somewhere else (in a temporary folder) BEFORE putting the 5.x license (C:/programdata/unity)... and then switching them back and forth, depending on which version of unity you wanted to use.

So what's the best version 4.6.17b, 5 beta or an old stable version? I think I'm on 4.6.7b haven't noticed any issues, it crashes sometimes but I'm unsure if stable had the same problem or not.

ReSharper and .NET Reflector seem like great tips but the cost of all this stuff seems pretty steep. I see some 14 year coders using unity free and monodevelop, they're on macs though.

VSE 2013 is nice though I use it and I just hit save debug with unity for the most part. First I open up the .sln in VS13 then hit sync monodev project then close the random error window that means nothing, plug code away in visual studio with all the detection.

Also edited my C# in the unity folder so it keeps better formatting.

Default can't build for WebGL

As you advised, I installed Unity 5 x64 in a VM with Windows 8 x64 and it works well: thank you.

I have issues creating the first build for WebGL, please help.

(1) With a project containing the 4.6 Unity UI, the console shows plenty of erros as UnityEngine.UI is not supported in the C# scripts.

(2) With a project with just a brand new scene with only a simple cube, I get the following error:

during the testing phase, valera gave me a 'test' patch that overwrote my unity_v4.x.ulf file by mistake.
i then deleted it. i then manually edited the file in jEdit, as instructed by valera (changing the name of the file and some of the xml-style code), that was created by an early v5_patcher.
you then wrote ^^^ this comment.
so... i launched v4.x to test.
the licensing form showed - i thought "fook!!! let's run the patcher again of 4.x, as it has a CREATE LICENCE option".
it failed... valera's patch did not create a 4.x license file in the revelant folder. (but i manually fixed it)

i copy'n'pasted of the unity_v5.x.ulf to the same folder... creating "unity_v5.x.ulf - copy".
i then renamed it to unity_v4.x.ulf, and edited its contented. changing the version number to "4.x".............. IT WORKS.

it seems your are using the old monodevelop (that was packed with v4.x versions) instead of the newer monodevolop (designed for v5) that is in the links above.
please try that OR move from mono to visual studio.

Yeah I got them. But I also had to get vspro as well.

I do not like the beta of 5. Changed the code and it's very very confusing it seems the scripting library doesn't have either versions of the code that changed either. So I am going to go uninstall 5 and update to 4.6.17. I like the feature that adds the create empty and some of the other stuff in the more recent version of 4.6 but I am having trouble with 5 at the moment as it's a beta even though it is much prettier and much smoother as x64.

Is there an x64 version of 4.6?

Crack working. But WebLG in Internet I have ( An error occured running the Unity content on this page. See your browser's JavaScript console for more info. The error was:
uncaught exception: could not load memory initializer WebGl.html.mem)

Only version 5 is 64-bit.
All previous versions are 32-bit.

AS FOR EVERYONE ELSE............ THIS is version 5.0.0b1 <-- THE FIRST BETA.

There are going to be ALOT of bugs and compilation errors.
That is what betas are for!!! To Test and Fix.

This 5.0.0b1 release is only meant to be a teaser for unity licensees(subscribers), and to get the ball rolling. It is NOT a final product.

i have deployed to android, iphone and win8phone. plus mac and PC. i have not tried anything else as those other platforms do not interest me.
all works well.... although ALOT of code had to be changed, due to the new API.

without the patch - there is an option to test it for 30 days...
... but, how can you really use something that isn't released yet??
... or, if your serial number isn't on unity's records??
... plus, it still has bugs, and the API is not yet documented and made available??

UNITY 5 BETA IS NOT FREE - only beta-testers and those that have BOUGHT it officially have access to it.

(i thought that would have been a given)

for the life of me, I can not figure out how to make a terrain in this. The ability to click on the terrain button does not work in my unity 5. did anybody else have this problem, and if so how did you fix it?

I found a solution! first make sure you still have unity 4.x indie. Start a new project with unity 4. Make a flat terrain. save it. Now import that unity 4 project into your Unity 5 beta cracked version. Find the terrain data and drag it onto your hierarchy. Now you have your terrain!!!

on your directional light you have to have bias turned all the way up for the shadows to work properly. If you don't do this, you get strange black spots all over your terrain.

@Joe, I have no problems creating a terrain and if you keep the terrain small it looks beautiful, but as soon as it gets larger or more complex, enlighten (I believe) makes the computer unresponsive and I have a decent spec pc too.

I'll stick with 4.6 for messing around right now.

Thanks for the heads up. I was wondering why 5.0 kept freezing all the time. Turned out I was trying to test it with a high-res imported terrain. As soon as I stopped that nonsense, 5.0 worked great (You notice huge improvements in the way things look right away, but switching to the new shaders looks even better ). I sure hope they fix the terrain size issue before the final release though, because the whole point of going 64bit is to IMPROVE performance.

@ rnmt Speedtree works fine, but reacts a little weird with enlighten, it will need a specific lighting format to work optimally. You may need to raise transparency just a hair on cards, to remove square shadows. Lots of pros and cons about working on actual projects, but it is the real way to beta something, assuming you have the additional R&D in your budget.

After testing, chances are I will be moving to UE4 with all my friends.

I've went back to unity 4.5 until the official release of 5 because some of the assets that are on here don't work. Any of the assets that wants to mess with the lighting wont work, like Relief terrain pack and Marmoset. Another reason is, I'm not a very good coder, so I have to watch tutorials on youtube. Some of the code in those tutorials will be wrong now because of the changes that are coming up with the A.P.I.

This is what I found not supported in WebGL:

- Extension methods
- Linq (for the same reason)
- List.Reverse() (do nothing)
- Only debug builds work.
