Default core i7 laptop

i hope you didn’t buy yet your laptop. i suggest you buy core i7 laptop 2630qm or 920xm if you will use it for rendering specially if you’re using mental ray or vray as your rendering engine. i7 QMs and XMs are quadcores, has 8 rendering buckets because of its 8 threads meaning 4 times the speed of core2duo. minimum memory should be 8gb ram if you want to work with photoshop while texturing and likewise if you’re doing the model in autocad. 1gb vga directx11 for iray in max 2012. vaio f126 740qm will be just fine but asus g73sw will be great, it has 1.5 gb vga and its designed for hard core gaming. i’m selling my vaio f126 for 1300 usd ecosierra111@yahoo.com
summary:
processor: core i7 2630 or 920xm (2.0ghz)
vga: 1gb better yet 1.5gb directx11 for iray in max 2012
ram: 8gb 1333
hdd: 320gb and up 7200 rpm or ssd will be just fine
optical: blu ray, dvd not so important goes with any laptop
screen: 16" and above, i suggest full hd with tft (anti glare) for better visualization of your 3d
you can go for any brand but i suggest sony vaio,asus,dell... very reasonable prices
but hp should be your last option, heats up easily and you always get blue screen...
but remember i'm only suggesting for 3ds max and not for any other purposes

Hi all,

I use a dual core Lenovo laptop for 3ds max at the moment. When I am ready to upgrade it will be an i7 Lenovo.
They are expensive laptops, but reliable.

i actually posted scores from my laptop just 5sec before your thread

well my laptop cost today no more than 400£ i know AE cs5 didnt support virtual cores so there is no point in spending 1500£ in the UK on msi 780

wanna laptop buy either gt 725 or advent 7555 , 6555 , 8555 of ebay

upgrade CPU to Q9200ES overclock it to 3.5 Ghz and DDR to 8GB and you will beat MSI gt 780 and asus g74 with its i7 2630 and 2635

read thread below

Link(s):

i did many benchmarks and the laptop i have got was kiling gt 780 in many benchmarks including rendering in AE and 3ds max

By may next year you will have ivy bridge latops and ddr4

make sure you have a good insurance plan goin with your laptop, too! and if you should not be traveling much, by all means, forget the laptop idea, as they simply are not build for this type of stuff to constantly work on yet (think heat) and get a desktop with lots of ram and 2gb+ gpu's for the same price instead.
unless it is all low-poly.

I just finished test driving an Asus A53SV i7 8 core 15" laptop which had a 90 day return policy, It definitely speeds up the rendering process. Unfortunately it also pushes out enough hot air via its fan, when its rendering, it can literally help heat your house. In addition you also have to talk louder, when its rendering, the fan noise can and does become a major distracting. Also working all day on a laptop is not the best for your hands and wrists. I'm planning on getting a desktop model again, after Boxing Day.
my 2 cents !
