Default Maya 2010 crash

My problem is that Maya 2010 (64 bit) crashes every time I try to render with mental ray; it works fine with maya software though. It even crashes on hypershade. I've got 3 unused ocean shaders, but when I try to delete them or just scroll down to them; crash. Everything worked perfectly fine until today. I've got an error message showing when I open my scene "Errors have encountered while reading this scene that may result in a data loss. Please check the script editor for details." But I've got it from almost the beginning when I imported an (.ma) object (podracer) (which I later deleted) I built that got the same error after I used a subD surface, but I have no idea why is that. But again, I had absolutely no problem until today.
Other scenes work fine (except for the podracer, which my scene got the error message inherited from, but I had no problem with it whatsoever, except for the error message showing up), just this one causes maya to crash(5422 faces total).

Hi Hayate!
That source file is the problem, try and do the render settings you after you opened the scene and hit render, but i dunno if it will work. you should try to go to hypershade and hit Delete unused shaders, or you can try and remove that by opening the .ma with a text editor and find those ocean shaders, and then select all your geometry and hit export as obj or .ma again with another name, dont select all, select only geometrys and hit export. come back with the results. check for flipped normals.

I opened the .ma with Crimson Editor and i found out that the podracer was still there. I deleted it along with the ocean shaders, the error message disappeared but it still crashes when rendering with mental ray or opening hypershade. I'll try to export the objects one-by-one. How do I check for flipped normals? Sorry, I'm still a newbie at this.

EDIT:
Okay, I found the source of the problem, it was one of the objects I modeled and textured yesterday. Pretty weird, since yesterday there was no problem with it. I'll now try to export it in pieces, hopefully just a single part of it got corrupted.
How can these things get corrupted? Is there anything I should look out for in the future, so this doesn't happen again?

EDIT 2:
Okay, problem solved, a .PSD bump map caused all this mess. Now, that I got rid of it, everything is back the way it should be.
Thank you for the help!
